Microneedling in Colorado Springs: Benefits, Downtime & What to Expect
If you’re looking for a treatment that works with your skin’s natural renewal process, microneedling may be worth exploring ๐
Microneedling is a minimally invasive skin treatment designed to stimulate your skin’s natural repair response. It is commonly used to improve the appearance of uneven texture, fine lines, acne scars, and other skin concerns.
WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?
Microneedling uses very small, sterile needles to create controlled microchannels in the skin.
Although “tiny needles” doesn’t immediately sound like skincare, those microchannels serve an important purpose: they initiate the skin’s natural wound-healing response.
As the skin repairs itself, processes involved in collagen and elastin production are stimulated. This is why microneedling is sometimes referred to as collagen induction therapy.
WHAT CAN MICRONEEDLING HELP WITH?
Depending on the individual and treatment plan, microneedling may help improve the appearance of
-Fine lines & wrinkles
-Uneven or rough skin texture
-Acne scars
-Enlarged-looking pores
-Certain types of uneven pigmentation
-Overall skin tone & appearance
*Remember: microneedling isn’t an instant transformation; improvements develop gradually as the skin goes through the remodeling process.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT?
Before treatment, your skin and concerns will be evaluated to determine whether microneedling is appropriate for you.
Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared before the microneedling device is passed across the treatment area. The depth and treatment approach can vary depending on the area being treated, the client’s skin and the goal of the treatment.
Because microneedling temporarily disrupts the skin barrier, cleanliness, proper technique, and appropriate aftercare are especially important.
DOES MICRONEEDLING HURT?
Everyone’s experience is a little different. Microneedling may feel prickly and you may notice vibration or pressure from the device. Certain areas of the face can feel more sensitive than others.
Your comfort and skin response will be monitored throughout the treatment. Always communicate with your practitioner throughout the treatment.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MICRONEEDLING?
Immediately after treatment, your skin may look and feel similar to a sunburn. Temporary effects can include:
-Redness
-Warmth
-Tightness
-Mild swelling
-Tenderness or sensitivity
-Dryness, flaking, or mild peeling as the skin recovers
These effects generally improve as the skin heals, although recovery varies depending on the individual and intensity of the treatment. Remember to follow the aftercare instructions.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Some people notice that their skin looks refreshed relatively soon after recovery, but collagen remodeling takes time. Improvements in concerns such as texture, fine lines, and acne scarring may continue developing over the following weeks. Depending on your goals, a series of treatments may be recommended rather than a single session.
IS MICRONEEDLING RIGHT FOR EVERYONE?
No — and that’s important.
Certain skin conditions, active infections, active acne lesions, impaired healing, medications, and other health or skin factors can make microneedling inappropriate. Always be honest with your practitioner about medications, skincare products, skin conditions, skin sensitivities, allergies, etc. A professional consultation is an important part of determining whether you’re a good candidate.
MICRONEEDLING AFTERCARE MATTERS
For the first few days after microneedling, think gentle, simple, and protected. Your skin barrier has temporarily been disrupted, so this isn’t the time to experiment with aggressive skincare.
Your personalized instructions may include avoiding exfoliating acids, retinoids, scrubs, and other potentially irritating active ingredients for a while. Instead, focus on gentle cleansing, hydration, moisturizing, and sun protection. Also follow instructions regarding exercise, excessive heat, swimming, makeup, and sun exposure during initial recovery period.

Building a Skincare Routine for Hyperpigmentation

Dark spots, uneven skin tone, and lingering marks can be frustrating — especially when you’re using all the things and aren’t sure what’s actually helping. I’ve got good new for you…your skincare routine doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective! No shade to those who love a complex routine but I prefer something more simple because that ends up being much more sustainable for me.
Whether you’re dealing with post-acne marks, sun damage, or other forms of hyperpigmentation, consistency, the right ingredients, and plenty of patience can make a difference. Let’s explore morning routines, evening routines, and some common questions and concerns.

MORNING ROUTINE
- Gentle Cleanser — Start with a cleanser that removes excess oil and buildup without stripping your skin barrier
- Antioxidant or Brightening Serum — Vitamin C is a great morning option because it provides antioxidant support while helping improve the appearance of uneven skin tone. *Other ingredients that brighten include alpha arbutin, tranexamic acid, azelaic acid, kojic acid, and niacinamide. Can add a serum with one of these ingredients after the Vit C step or mix them together*
- Moisturizer — Choose a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type (normal, combo, oily, dry) to keep your skin barrier healthy.
- Sunscreen — the most important ingredient to combat hyperpigmentation (and aging). Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and remember to reapply throughout the day.

EVENING ROUTINE
- Cleanser — double cleanse to remove makeup, sunscreen, oil, and the day’s buildup. Use a gentle cleanser (can be the same one used in the morning) and/or a moisturizing antioxidant cleanser.
- Exfoliation — this is NOT an every day step. Start with 1x per week and work up to 2x per week. Chemical exfoliants like AHAs are your best bet. Check out my post about chemical exfoliants here.
- Treatment — use a brightening serum or a retinoid to encourage cell regeneration. Remember that retinoids can be harsh and need to be slowly implemented. Start with 1x per week and work your way up to 3x per week if your skin will tolerate it. Never use retinoids in the morning or on the same day as an exfoliant. Learn more about retinoids here.
- Moisturize — Choose a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type (normal, combo, oily, dry) to keep your skin barrier healthy.
Skincare is never an overnight fix. Pigmentation takes time to improve and different types of discoloration may respond differently to certain ingredients and treatments. Constantly switching up your routine doesn’t usually get you the results your are looking for. Focus on a routine that is appropriate for your skin goals and skin type and be consistent!
Not sure where to start? That’s where professional skincare can help. Professional treatments can complement your home care routine or jump start it. Perhaps your home care routine isn’t doing what you expected it to do. We can find the missing pieces or give your skin a fresh start. Let’s begin your relax, restore, renew era so your light shines through ๐
